Tribes
added 16.01.12 at 12:52pm
This week sees the release of debut album of hotly-tipped Camden quartet, Tribes. Every year one guitar band is labelled as the group who will save rock and roll - and going by the strength of their album and its sonically 90s feel, these could be the guys who do it.
Way back in October, we had the opportunity to interview them, discussing topics such as playing house parties, meeting the Red Hot Chili Peppers and not sounding anything like The Libertines. Click on the audio below to listen away! K&G

Claude VonStroke
added 11.11.11 at 08:52pm
Natasha Tompsett: He was a dream to interview, with a laugh more jolly than Santa. Also a big James Blake fan I found out chatting after.
So I’m here with Claude Von Stroke, Barkley Crenshaw, the man himself. Let’s start with the basics, how was your journey here today?
My Journey was pretty loooong, started in San Francisco, connected in Chicago, flew to Manchester and drove 2 hours with a very nice guy called Thomas, we talked about the differences between America and the UK.
I was basically blaming him for starting the whole tabloid culture and sending it over to America. I was telling him about the whole Charlie Sheen thing, I was saying “Why do I know about this!! It’s because of England!”
It’s because of OK magazine that I know everything about Charlie Sheen’s meltdown!!
We won’t be expecting any Charlie Sheen type meltdowns from you in the future then...
Ha no.... Winning!!
I win here, I win there. Now, you originally played hip-hop, how did you end up doing house?

Jamie Woon
added 11.11.11 at 08:42pm
Natasha Tompsett
Right so I’m here with Jamie Woon. Readers of The Mic and listeners of URN may not have been familiar with you until the recent single Night Air, personally I first heard you through your work with Subeena a few years back, how would you say that since then you have developed musically and where would you like to progress to?
Yeah I guess I was kind of singer/song writer, playing guitar and making a living sort of doing gigs and selling my CDRs like that, not really releasing many recordings apart from Wayfaring Stranger a few years ago. Then I went to the Red Bull Music Academy and did a couple of collaborations there and that was about the same time I started producing my own records, I was quite inspired by that experience. That was the time I made that track with Subeena and I made a track with dEbruit in the same week, it was the first time I’d made a tune with someone where they’d just given me the beat. It was nice because I kind of labour over stuff...
Too much?
