What is the ‘longest club DJ session relay’? It is the process in which a group of DJs mix one record each consecutively. In theory this involves DJ after DJ mixing track after track. It was a record first broken by BBC Radio 1Xtra on June 5th 2010 with 82 DJs. URN hope to achieve this with well over this current figure; so far things are looking very promising. The whole process is turning out to be quite a feat. Once we have overcome the logistics of gathering over 82 DJs in one room, we then need to make sure they are all perfectly prepped as to where they need to be and when they need to be there. And then of course there is the mix. ‘Mixing, that’s easy’ I hear you say. No, on the contrary - in order for us to achieve the record each track has to be perfectly beat-matched. If any DJ incorrectly times his ‘mix’ and clangs it, well, it’s game over. In the disastrous event that this does happen we have a cunning backup plan. We are going to be running the attempt in parallel. ‘Behind the scenes’ will be another complete setup with DJs performing the same mix with spectators able to watch if required. It’s shaping up to be the main event in the DJ calendar with everyone very excited in URN. Fingers crossed we smash it!
