Nottingham University Women's Rugby team will tomorrow aim to emulate their victory in last year's Varsity match against arch rivals Trent at Notts County's Meadow Lane ground.
Operating two teams this season, they have seen contrasting fortunes. The 1st team winning only two of nine matches in the Midlands Conference Division 1A this season, would be definitive underdogs, particularly facing a Trent side against whom they have twice been defeated, 58-0 and 27-0 respectively. However, though Uni's first-team highlights have been scarce there have been some comforts in a hard fought 12-5 win over Bedfordshire's 1st team and the 51-0 thrashing of bottom of the league Oxford Brookes.
They will too, be further buoyed by the influx of second team players to the Varsity squad, who will be brimming with confidence having won league immediately below, Midlands Conference Division 2A.
Trent though, will be no pushovers, having finished in a strong third place in Midlands Conference Division 1A.
Thus an interesting encounter awaits as it remains to be seen whether Uni's fusion of 1s and 2s players can overcome the strong Trent side.
With Varsity fixtures though it is well known that the form book can be thrown out of the window so both teams will be anxious to secure a valuable point for their University's in the Varsity Series.
