Saturday 5th March saw the Nottingham Rugby League Varsity changing location to a very wet and cold Highfields. With a great turnout of supporters from both sides, not to mention the match’s prime location for a spot of SU elections campaigning, the atmosphere was enthusiastic despite the drizzle, and our 1st team emerged onto the pitch confident and determined following a 2nd team win for Uni.

Saturday 5th of March sees the fourth event in ‘The 2011 PASIC Varsity Series’ take place. Currently trailing 2-1 in the series, Uni will be looking to level prior to the double header of Basketball and Netball on March 11th, or risk Trent extending their lead.

With one Varsity match win a piece for our respective Rugby League sides, this game is sure to be a close one. Last year Uni edged a thrilling encounter, ending up 18-16 winners and avenging their 18-10 defeat from the previous year.

A fantastic season, sees Uni occupy second in the Southern Premier BUCS division, only behind runaway leaders Exeter, Trent, however, have similarly been in fine form, topping the BUCS midlands league, though they have been defeated twice by Uni's second team.

Sure to be another highly charged and physical match, the well organised and tight defence Trent displayed last year will be challenged by Uni's power and strength on the wing. Uni will be hoping that their team's large contingent of 3rd years will be able to call upon their experience to aid them in what promises to be a very exciting affair on paper. For many their last chance at a Varsity victory, let’s hope it can live up to expectations.

Sunday 28th February saw Rugby League Varsity taking place once again at Lady Bay, dwarfed by the surrounding stadiums Trent Bridge, Meadow Lane & the City Ground, in extremely cold temperatures! With a decent turnout of supporters from both university’s occupying the sidelines the scene was set. Previous to the main event the two 2nd teams had met on an adjacent pitch with Uni emerging victorious 16-14 in the closing minutes - a sign of things to come one may have thought?

Sunday 28th February is not only the day of the Carling Cup Final, but also sees ‘The 2010 C.R.Y. Varsity Series’ reach the 4th event out of ten, with Uni currently leading their local rivals Trent by 2-1. This game is obviously vital so early on in the series with the scores closely poised, but holds extra resonance with a ten-day break before netball on March 10th. A 3-1 Uni lead going into this rest period would be a huge confidence boost, but if Trent were to tie the series at 2-2 then we would be right back at square one.
