GAME OVER! Trent have opened Varsity 2010 with a win by 14 points to 6. Their players and fans rightly celebrate, but neither side performed particularly well in that game. Disappointing advert for the sport

Huge throw!! Denning's arm rockets the ball a good 35 yards and Paliwalla catches it again. Another 15 yard penalty against the Outlaws though and they are back on the 30-yard line

Uni have turned over possession! Brief hope here for the Outlaws. Surely it is too late on though? Stranger things have happened...

I'm sitting here, extremely gutted that neither Simon nor myself have been able to use a "goal update" this half. The last Trent touchdown seems an age ago

Once again a false start from Uni, this time on a 4th down meaning Trent take over possession with very little time remaining. The Uni fans are rightly getting frustrated.

George in Lenton has text in: "Colts 30- Saints 21 for the Superbowl tonight, I can feel a Peyton Manning master class"

So so close for Uni. Rick Jackson agonisingly close to catching a Denning throw in the end zone but doesn't quite hold up for him. 2 minutes left, the tension is mounting!

Great pass that from Denning to Wide Receiver Kabeer Paliwalla, inside the Renegade's 20 on 1st down This could be their best chance at a touchdown right here. Yet again however, Uni's discipline is very weak. Offensive holding causes a 10-yard penalty

Dodgy dancing there from Trent's James Spencer, he is clearly a crowd pleaser. On the pitch, it is all a bit dull. A lot of play in the middle of the park, with neither team's offence making any dramatic ground. We need The Waterboy here to liven things up a bit; where are you Adam Sandler?

I apologise. The different colour wasn't really required there, but I felt like mixing it up a bit. Do forgive me.

NFL expert Nick: "Penalties are killing Uni's offence. We can't get a sustained drive together."

I must say at this point, there is definitely a better atmosphere here compared to what there will be at The Orange Bowl in Miami later this evening!

Back to 1st down again. This is good work from Denning and Uni's offensive line, but as I say that Uni are penalised yet again. Back we go 15 yards

Steady work this from the Outlaws, working their way up the field. Their on their own 40-yard line on 1st down. You can only help but feel that Uni need something very quickly to have any chance of gaining the first point in the Varsity Series. Do please remember that all donations and ticket sales are going to C.R.Y (Cardiac Risk in the Young)

Thanks for that quarter Simon, it's good to be back!

We have now reached the end of the third quarter and Trent still lead 14-6. The players change ends and we enter the business end of this match.

Trent are making decent progress down the field, and the Outlaws need to up their game if they are going to get anything out of this game and prevent Trent taking a 1-0 lead in this 2010 Varsity series.

Big hit from number 26, the lack of a correct roster list is getting irritating! I enjoyed that. However from the very next play Trent Tight End Ben Rabbet caught a pass from McKenna and runs for a huge gain to the Uni 38.

Uni are forced to punt and manage to restrict the Renegades to their own 27. Decent play. Come on Outlaws-lets have a turnover!

Progress up to where they started on this play with a 3rd and 10. I can't even remember the last time we last had a completed pass.

This is the best drive of the game so far, but Outlaws have been severely punished by 10 yards here, despite recording a first down. These consistent penalties are getting frustrating.

Outlaws are benefiting from some good offensive discipline and not giving any penalties away. They continue the drive to their own 38.

We're having some Monster Munch here, I'm sure you wanted to know that, brings some respite from the cold (sort of.)

Outlaws continue the running game, game not flowing particularly well, reminds me of the first NFL game played at Wembley back in 2007.

I think I may have missed the raffle draw, referenced earlier, come on number 432!

A penalty against the Outlaws for a personal foul gives Trent an automatic first down, however they waste possession and are forced to punt. Uni safely catch and will start on their own 11 yard line.

Florence, thanks for your correspondence. "The online commentary is great, really adding to the game. Andy fine is playing fantastically! Go outlaws!!"

Please do continue to send in your texts, we've had loads coming in so far. The number is 07762212434 or send a free web text via the website, www.urn1350.net

Right, we are back underway, Simon here with you for the third quarter. We are joined by NFL expert Nick, a Packers fan. On the pitch, Uni's running back Andy Fine, incidentally a civil engineer, runs the ball back to uni's 32 yard line.

I'm being rightfully harassed by my co-reporter Sam with regards to my spelling. Fair enough really, I'm not an English student.

The players are going through their stretches, and I'm hopeful of an Outlaws second half comeback. Fingers and toes both crossed

Our esteemed producer Tom Ryan is currently stuck somewhere between Nottingham and Winchester, apparently British Rail haven't been too considerate towards our coverage of Varsity today. However, his alter ego Brian the Lion is out and about the stadium today.

We dont know how long we have left off half time but we will back with the action shortly. Incidently in case you missed the draw for the Euro 2012 qualifiers earlier, England and Wales have been drawn in the same group, together with Switzerland, Bulgaria and Montenegro. Good stuff, no doubt Capello will be please with that after an otherwise difficult week.

Nottingham Knights now. Another decent dance. I would love to see them crack that out in Ocean, that would be quality

Trent Tigers with a solid performance. The Simon Cowell in me says they might not make the next round of Britain's Got Talent however

And with half-time arrives the cheerleaders for their few minutes of fame. This should be interesting. Trent to go first

Half time: Uni 6 - 14 Trent

Another interception by Trent on their own 10-yard line off a Denning throw. 2 minutes until half-time ladies and gentlemen

Biggest hit of the game so far. Massive hit by Trent's Chris Smith. So massive I felt the need for a different colour. Uni retain the ball, still on the 36

Well Matt, they have listened to you. Rick Jackson catches the kick off and makes a solid run to the Trent 36-yard line. I think the fans were calling for a full-return there, but a good 40 yards made nonetheless

Text in from Matt in Lenton: "Disappointing first half from Uni here, let's hope they can start to find some gaps in the Trent defence"

Extra point added to that touchdown. Uni 6- 14 Trent

Touchdown Trent. Another interception from a high-risk Simon Denning throw, running in for the touchdown was Defensive Back Ashley Mullin

Uni call the first time-out of the game, and gain another first down with a gain of 12 yards

Trent cheerleaders are going through their warm-up routine. Getting ready for the half-time show no doubt. It's quite cold out here, let's hope they stretch vigorously

Uni defence has been solid all game. It's causing a bit a stalemate here, some very slow plays all in the middle of the field. I know this because the grass is very green on the flanks

Very nearly a uni interception with a flying catch. Good effort from Uni's number 65

Uni reach 4th down again, and punt down-field. Trent to restart play at their 38-yard line. They will be hoping for something special here from their Quarterback; Kurtis McKenna.

T-R-E-N-T, you're gunna get a **** degree. Incredible chants from the Uni following.

Both defences have definitely been on top so far, suffocating the offense from making any decent plays. Maybe it is a reflection on the level of football we are seeing here, but the crowd are certainly enjoying themselves and the chants are starting to be produced! Brilliant.

Trent get to the end of possession and punt. Uni's Wide Receiver Rick Jackson loses his footing and misses the catch. As a result, Uni to start 1st down on their own 28-yard line

Trent's Ashley Mullin receives the punt, and is grounded on Trent's 22-yard line. 1st down Trent. May I just add to those Trent chants, we are not from Beeston

3rd down and Uni advance into Trent's half. One more down until the customary punt, let's hope for something special here!

2nd quarter underway. Sorry I can't report on the play, I'm too busy getting a raffle ticket

Trent have punted upfield and that brings to an end the first quarter and I'm handing over to Sam.

John on campus reckons the Saints will win tonight, anyone think he's wrong? I do for starters..

Trent quarterback Curtis McKenna is sacked by the uni No.26, which is unhelpfully a number omitted in the official match programme!

Good coverage from uni on the return meaning trent start on their own 20 yard line.

TOUCHDOWN!! For some reason Outlaws went for the 2 point conversion, we're not sure why up here but Trent still lead 7-6.

The trent players on the side of the pitch are trying to spir up an atmosphere. A third false start of the day by uni offense, it's third down, last chance of a touchdown really on this play...

Trent fumble!! Recovered by uni on the trent 10 yard line. I can feel a touchdown coming!!

Meanwhile on the pitch, uni have punted forwards and left the Renegades on their own 16. Lets hope uni can take advantage of this good field position.

Dave in Lenton says "good coverage so far boys, lets hope the uni performance improves. COME ON OUTLAWS!!" Keep your texts coming in!

Apologies for any grammatical errors, Sam will be taking control in the second quarter!

Short pass by uni quarterback Denning, and uni are now in Trent's half for the first time! Things are looking up!

Please contact us with any thoughts about the Superbowl tonight, big party to watch the game in Walkabout if your interested.

The bad start for uni continues with a fumble, fortunately recovered, now 14 yards to go.

We're back underway again and the outlaws return to their own 39 yard line.

Simon Denning is intercepted and the Renegades Line Backer Alex Fodor runs in for the first touchdown of the game. Trent kick the extra point. Uni 0 - 7 Trent.

Outlaws receive 2 penalties of 10 yards and 5 yards and are now in trouble on 3rd down and still 25 yards to go..

We are underway, with the Outlaws receiving kick off and Rick Jackson returns kick off to the Outlaws 32 yard line.

The teams are being introduced, the stadium is full and we are ready to go!

The players are coming out, the cheerleaders are in fine voice, and we are eagerly awaiting the start of the Nottingham Varisty Series 2010

Sam and Simon are here with you all afternoon, do feel free to text in via the website and let us know your thoughts

The pitch looks good, weather very overcast and the referees are looking pristine in their white and black uniforms. It's not quite The Super Bowl in Miami, but Varsity in Nottingham is the next best thing

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen from the Harvey Hadden Stadium in Nottingham for the Nottingham Outlaws (Uni) v Nottingham Renegedes (Trent) the official start of Varsity 2010!!
